Gaurikund is a sacred town in Uttarakhand and the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath Temple. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,982 meters, it holds immense religious significance in Hindu mythology. According to legend, Goddess Parvati performed intense penance here to win Lord Shiva’s love, and the place is named after her. The town is also known for its natural hot water springs, believed to have medicinal and spiritual properties. Pilgrims take a holy dip in these waters before beginning their journey to Kedarnath. Gaurikund has essential facilities such as lodging, eateries, and shops selling trekking gear and religious items. The 16 km trek to Kedarnath starts from here, with ponies and palanquins available for those unable to walk. Surrounded by lush greenery and towering mountains, Gaurikund offers a peaceful yet energetic atmosphere, making it a vital stop for devotees and trekkers alike.
