Sonprayag is a small but significant town in Uttarakhand, located on the way to Kedarnath. Nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,829 meters, it serves as an important stopover for pilgrims visiting the Kedarnath Temple. The town is situated at the confluence of the Mandakini and Basuki rivers, which are considered sacred in Hindu mythology. The name "Sonprayag" means "Golden Confluence," signifying its spiritual importance. It is believed that a dip in these holy waters can cleanse one's sins. Sonprayag also offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks, making it a serene destination for nature lovers. The town has accommodation facilities, small eateries, and transportation services for pilgrims. From here, devotees travel to Gaurikund, the base point for the Kedarnath trek. With its religious significance and natural beauty, Sonprayag remains an essential stop for those embarking on the Char Dham Yatra.
